The Story of the Farm

"We are only getting two sheep."

Perhaps many small farmers start with those words.

Our first two sheep were Coco and Jumper, mother and daughter Shetlands. They were originally from Maine where they were rescued once and then rescued again by our friends at Old King Farm. When they could no longer keep them, we rescued them again.

I was sure that Coco and Jumper would simply be our pets and would provide me a bit of wool to spin, no more sheep necessary. But I was instantly in love and couldn't help thinking how wonderful it would be for them to have lambs. A Shetland ram came next, followed by two adorable lambs in a few months.

Throw in a couple extra sheep purchases, an Angora bunny, Angora goats, and you have a little fiber farm. (Not to mention ducks, geese, and turkeys. Alas, they do not provide us with fiber.)
